Love this time of year! This warmer weather has me dreaming of seeds, spuds, dirt, worms, and so much more.  I can’t wait to play in the Garden!

The gardening season is upon us and here’s the latest:

Pea-Patch Rentals:  52 garden beds are available for rent during the season. Please note we are a pesticide-free garden and require attendance at one orientation session as well as 10 hours of volunteer work in our Giving Garden beds over the course of the year (see below).

·         Current bed renters who wish to continue gardening in 2017 should let Gloria know at mukilteop-patch@hotmail.com by March 1st for priority on bed choices.

·         New to the Garden? Bed rentals open March 1st to the general public so mark your calendars and let Gloria know you’re interested at mukilteop-patch@hotmail.com after that date.

·         2017 Price Increase: Bed rental rates are set to help cover the cost to provide water and maintain the basic structures. This year’s review of expenses has led us to raise prices for the first time. Thank you in advance for understanding.

o   4’x8’: $50

o   4’x10’: $60

o   4’x12’: $70

·         Orientation Dates: Attendance at one orientation session is mandatory each year, regardless of how long you’ve been renting with us so mark your calendars for one of the following:

o   Saturday March 4th, 10:00am

o   Saturday March 18th, 10:00am

o   Sunday March 26th, 10:00am

Giving Garden Beds: 20 garden beds are devoted to growing pesticide-free fruits and vegetables for the Mukilteo and Lynnwood food banks.  Last year we donated over 2000 pounds!

We welcome everyone interested in helping!  Seeding, transplanting, weeding, watering, harvesting, and so much more.  Join us at any of our work parties, whether or not you rent a bed from us.

We have two work parties tentatively scheduled for March – dependent on the weather and the dampness of the soil.  Mark your calendars and we’ll send updates as we have them:

            Saturday, March 11, 10:00am-12:00pm

            Saturday, March 25, 10:00am-12:00pm

Classes:  We’ll be holding classes on various gardening topics the second Saturday of the month at 10:00am (except for February which will be the third weekend).  Visit our website for the dates and topics.  http://www.mukilteogarden.org/  All classes are open to the public so bring friends and family interested in getting started!

            Saturday, February 18th, 10:0am: Let’s Get Sprouting!

This is a hands on class. You will learn how to properly start seeds and the different ways to care for them, whether you have a greenhouse or not. You will be helping to start seeds for the MCG as well as seeds to take home. We will discuss planning a vegetable garden and companion planting.

Who We Are: The Mukilteo Community Garden was founded, and currently run, by volunteers. Bed-renters, local service groups, and people in the community spend countless hours growing a healthy community through gardening at the MCG.

We not only rely on volunteers, but as a 501© non-profit, we rely on bed-rental fees and donations to cover our expenses and expand our offerings. Thank you to all our past and current donors and sponsors for your generous contributions over the years.

Donations can be made online at http://www.mukilteogarden.org/donations or mailed to the Garden at PO Box 1053, Mukilteo, WA 98275.  If you have any questions, feel free to contact one of the MCG board members. We’d love the opportunity to chat with you!

Whew!  Very long “first update.”

Can’t wait to see you in the Garden!
