Lil' & Juniors Gardeners Club

Come join the fun every other Saturday at the Mukilteo Community Garden at 10 am

Children ages 5 to 11 are invited to join this exciting and fun new club. Gardening opens whole new areas of exploration, awareness, enjoyment, amazement, and learning for children. The Club is dedicated to growing young minds in a stimulating environment through educational and enriching classes. The club coordinator, Stephanie Casino, has activities designed to bring delight in gardening with hands-on projects The children will also plant, tend, and harvest their own vegetable bed and donate their harvest to local food banks.
Expect your child to get decently dirty/muddy due to the learning environment. We will be striving to be avid learners and will be exploring with all our senses! Sunscreen and/or hats are advisable. Please bring water for hydration. We won't be providing or having any kind of snack but feel free to bring if needed for medical reason-just please inform Stephanie. Have the child(ren) fed and ready for a fun time.

*NOTICE*-Parents/Gaurdians must be present at the garden at all times.

About Stephanie Casino - Club Coordinator
I moved to Everett from Boise, ID July of last year and am currently employed by the Mukilteo School district as a teacher at Mariner High School. I’ve been educating kids since 2011. My experience includes working for 4 different school districts as a substitute teacher or as a full-time educator (was a kinder-teacher in Maui); worked at the YMCA as a Pre-K teacher and a Camp Counsellor for the group pre-k to 2nd grade; Montessori Teaching Assistant; several times as a Daycare attendant; and I was also trained as a dental assistant. I’ve been infant, child and adult CPR, AED and BSL certified; and have completed at least 7 hours of Idaho Stars Program- (a type of certification for childcare providers). I ‘ve started a Lil’ gardener club in my previous community garden in Meridian, Idaho (Meridian Garden Co-op) where I participated for almost 2 years. However, we only began the program last year with 15 children participated at the highest attendance and about 3 children for the lowest participation. I have an adorable two year old son (Kaleo). You might wonder why I do what I do...... I grew up as a Catholic and grew part of Kiwanis (Key Club, Circle K and some day Kiwanis Club). I was awarded the prestigious Henry Albert Senior Public Service Award in college 2008. Stewardship, fellowship and volunteerism have always been part of my life and brings great joy to me. I feel like I’m making a difference, although small and might be insignificant. Three of my favorite quotes: “Be the change you want to see in the world”-Mohandas Gandhi, “The world is changed by examples. Not by opinions….Live by example” –Unknown and “To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure betrayal of false friends; to find the best in others; to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition; to know even one life has breathe easier because you have lived. This is to have succeed.”- Ralph Waldo Emerson.
