The Mukilteo Community Garden is well into our second year thanks to the efforts of some of our hard working neighbors! Food bank gardens have been planted and our work parties are as fun as ever so come join in and lend a hand! We are always in need of more volunteers in the
garden regardless of your experience level! Check out our photos and see how much fun it is to donate your time for such an important part of our community! We could always use another pair of hands as there is so much to do. Work party notices can be found here on our calendar, in the community notices section
of the Mukilteo Beacon, and posted at
the garden. Everyone is welcome...come for an hour
or stay for the day...rain or shine!
Community education is also a priority in the Mukilteo Community Garden. Gardening classes, which are being offered monthly through the end of the growing season are a big success with community members! Find out about our classes by clicking on the pea vine below.Would you like your very own garden plot? We have raised beds ready for planting available! | GARDEN NEWS FROM THE MCG BOARD! June 17, 2010 In November 2009 seventy volunteers from Northshore Christian Church and Catalyst Ministries built nearly 1,000 square feet of raised beds for food production in our Mukilteo Community Garden. In one day these men, women and children transformed the garden. They built and moved fences. They cleared weeds and cut wood. They hauled soil and chips. Our garden team provided a fellowship lunch enjoyed by all. So it only seems right to share our harvest with Northshore's Pantry program. Mukilteo City Supervisor Joe Hannan heads the food bank system serving some 65 families. On Saturday June 12 volunteers from Northshore, lead by Lisa Parker, harvested 47 pounds of fresh produce and herbs for the Pantry. We will continue sharing the bounty with our Northshore neighbors. The City of Mukilteo Mayor Joe Marine, along with Joe Hannan, were the guiding force in starting the garden. They suggested the current site of the garden. City Public Works Department installed water, an entry gate and a surplus garden shed. Both department head Larry Waters and supervisor Marc Larson have been instrumental in the garden success. Both City Councilpersons Linda Grafer and Emily Vanderwielen are volunteers in the garden along with both Joe's, all on their own time. It takes a community to make a garden.
